Shearwater Adventure are one of the Lake Districts leading providers of Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions.
We offer a consultation and delivery service to suit your needs as a teacher, group leader or participant. Our involvement can be as big or as little as you need. With over 30 years experience of working in the outdoors and with young people, we are happy to assist you in any aspect of expedition design, planning or delivery. Alternatively, we can just provide safety supervision for your event.

Which ever your mode of transport, Shearwater Adventure can provide training, assessment or supervision. With our own fleet of boats, access to local providers for bikes and with the mountains and water on our doorstep we are can help you towards the success of your expedition.
whats included?

- Bunkhouse or YHA accommodation
For the first nights of your training expedition. This provides us with a relaxed training venue and allows you to get the most from the first couple of training days, without having to worry about carrying all your kit or how you will dry your boots.
- Camping fees
Camping will either be on a campsite or wild camping, depending on your expedition.
- Free use of group equipment.
We will provide you with tents perfect for your expedition. We will also provide Trangia stoves and fuel, first aid kits, maps, and group shelters.
- Comprehensive training
Covering all aspects of the DofE syllabus and delivered by our highly experienced and qualified staff.
- Supervision
Throughout the expedition.
- Accredited Assessors.
For the qualifying expedition, who will help you feel relaxed and encourage you towards completing your expedition.
- Groups photographs
Your instructor will carry a camera to record your experience. These photos are free to our groups and are a great memory of your expedition.
what do you need to arrange?
- Your transport to and from the expedition venue. We can arrange to collect you from a local train or bus station.
- Your personal equipment. Remember: Shearwater Adventure provides Trangia stoves and fuel, first aid kits, maps, and group shelters.
- All of your personal food. We will advise you on the best types of food to buy based on your expedition and nutritional needs.

Shearwater Adventure are Approved Activity Providers for expeditions with Duke of Edinburgh Award and hold a AALS licence. Both of these accreditations mean we place uncompromising attention to the safety of all of our activities. Safety is at the core of all Shearwater Adventure provides and underpins all of their activities. The company has a commitment to ensuring the welfare of all participants, but without taking away the unique experience and challenge that adventure can give.
